The USPTA recently unveiled a new certified membership category, Tennis Instructor, that will replace the non-certified Recreational Coach category on January 1, 2021. The Tennis Instructor category is designed to offer aspiring tennis professionals a pathway into the coaching ranks with USPTA certification. Tennis Instructor will replace the non-certified Recreational Coach category on January 1, 2020. Tennis Instructors will have access to coverage under the USPTA’s $6 million liability insurance policy for annual dues of just $199.

Those still interested in becoming Recreational Coaches can apply at the link below. Recreational Coaches may elect to purchase coverage under the USPTA’s $6 million liability insurance policy. The USPTA protects you and your family against potentially devastating losses with on-court liability/bodily injury and property damage insurance. It covers Recreational Coaches while practicing, playing, teaching, or officiating tennis, pickleball and platform tennis in the United States, its territories, and Canada. To elect the liability insurance, click the box on the payment portion of the application. If you do not elect to purchase the Liability Insurance at this time, you may do so later by calling the Membership department. Please note the cost of liability insurance is not prorated and will cost the same no matter what time of the year it is purchased. In addition, you can also purchase additional insurance for your facility at an additional cost.

Please note: All Recreational Coaches must convert to the Tennis Instructor category by December 31, 2020. On January 1, 2021, all remaining Recreational Coaches will become Tennis Instructor Applicant Members. To convert to Tennis Instructor, Recreational Coaches must attend a two-day Teaching Essentials 1 workshop.

To apply to become a Recreational Coach, please review the following procedures:
  1. Please fill out the application.
