LAKE NONA, Fla. – The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) is proud to present the 2020 USPTA Star Award to Ron Woods of Corpus Christi, Texas.

“Ron is certainly a deserving recipient of this award,” USPTA CEO John Embree said. “He has been a fixture in the Texas tennis community as well as all levels of our Association for many years. We are proud to recognize him with the 2020 Star Award.”

Woods currently serves as President of Tennis Success, a local non-profit NJTL Chapter in Corpus Christi that provides free tennis, education, healthy living programs and college scholarships to underserved youth in the community. Ron is very involved in all aspects of Tennis Success, from fundraising to taking photos. He also directs the Whataburger Invitational High School Tennis Tournament, which has raised over $30,000 for college scholarships in the three years he has run it. Woods is a USPTA Master Professional, a National Past President and a 53-year member.

USPTA Stars are members who have dedicated many years to volunteering in grassroots tennis and through initiatives incorporating multicultural and other aspects and bring the sport and sportsmanship to the players they touch. Their giving spirits have made them stars in their own communities. We may not have heard of the people who receive this award, but their stories are inspiring, and almost all of us know at least one person who deserves a nomination.
