Steve Kappes Named USPTA San Diego Executive Director

 

LAKE NONA, Fla., June 28, 2024 —The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), Inc. is excited to formally announce the appointment of Steve Kappes as the new USPTA San Diego executive director.

Steve is a USPTA Professional and 19-year USPTA member who served on the USPTA San Diego Division board for 15 years. He is deeply involved in the San Diego tennis community, having coached youth and adult recreational players at multiple sites and served on the boards of Youth Tennis San Diego, the San Diego District Tennis Association and the Southern California Tennis Association.
 
Steve is also known for his roles in adaptive tennis, having co-founded the San Diego Wounded Warrior Tennis Program and has been its director since its inception in 2009. Leveraging his experience as a former career Navy officer, this all-volunteer-run, nationally recognized program improves Warriors’ quality of life through tennis and camaraderie in partnership with major military medical centers. Steve also serves on the USTA’s National Adaptive Tennis Committee and USPTA’s adaptive tennis task force.
 
Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree in nonprofit leadership and management from the University of San Diego. 
 
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the USPTA as the San Diego Division executive director and excited to help our board and members deliver outstanding racquet sports coaching and programming in our region. I also look forward to working with the USPTA national staff and our colleagues across the country to accomplish our collective mission," Steve said.
 
Steve begins his role on July 1.
