LAKE NONA, Fla. – The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) is proud to name Hunter Gallaway of Concord, CA (Northern California Division), the 2021 USPTA Large Facility Manager of the Year.
The award recognizes facility managers who encourage and develop their staff, hire and support USPTA-certified Professionals, and contribute to the tennis community.
Hunter has owned, managed, and served as Tennis Director at the Lafayette Tennis Club in Lafayette, CA, for over 20 years. He has long been known for offering many competitive events at the club. However, in 2019, his newly renovated clubhouse burned to the ground, and he was only able to offer one USTA junior tournament before COVID hit. Hunter was ready to open as soon as the county gave the okay to open, utilizing all the COVID protocols and guidelines. He quickly ramped up his tournament schedule offering open and challenger level junior events so that developing players could participate and gain tournament experience. He even opened his club to local pros whose clubs were closed so that they could continue teaching. Hunter also spent part of his time working on designing, planning, and permitting his new clubhouse.
About the USPTA: Founded in 1927, the USPTA is the global leader in tennis-teacher certification and professional development. With more than 14,000 members worldwide and 17 divisions nationwide, the Association’s mission is to raise the standards of tennis-teaching professionals and coaches and to promote a greater awareness of the sport.
