Stefano Ianni, Agata Cioroch Win Men’s, Women’s Open Singles Titles at 2019 USPTA World Championships

LAKE NONA, Fla. – The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) hosted the USPTA World Championships at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino during the 2019 USPTA World Conference presented by Havana Bob’s. Stefano Ianni (Miami, Fla.) and Agata Cioroch (Atlanta, Ga.) won the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles Titles, respectively. The event used Fast4 scoring.

Ianni defeated Spencer Travalino (Berkeley, Calif.) 4-2, 4-2, in the championship match. Ianni defeated Sean Pease (Haverhill, Mass.) in the semifinal and Mark Johnson (Killen, Ala.) in the quarterfinal. Travalino defeated Joseph Walters (Henderson, Nev.) and John Walter (College Station, Texas) en route to the final. 
Cioroch was crowned Women’s Open Singles champion after defeating Janet Khaemba (Sudbury, Mass.), 4-1, 4-0, in the final.

In the men’s 35 singles, Ikaika Jobe (Honolulu, Hawaii) defeated Juan Martinez-Arraya (Stamford, Conn.) in the semifinal and Walter Williams (Richardson, Texas), 4-0, 4-0, in the final. Williams defeated Oliver Summers (Fargo, N.D.), and Martinez-Arraya won the only quarterfinal match against Hau Nguyen (San Diego, Calif.).

Julien Heine (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) won the men’s 45 singles draw after Rodolfo Rodriguez (San Diego, Calif.) withdrew due to injury in the final. Heine defeated Randy Becker (Mountain View, Calif.) in the semifinal, while Rodriguez defeated Leif Nordlund (Palm Desert, Calif.). In the quarterfinal, Becker defeated James Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) in a tiebreaker, Rodriguez defeated Raj Jackson (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Nordlund defeated Jason Thiner (Fargo, N.D.) in a tiebreaker. Heine entered in the semifinal as the top seed.

In the men’s 55 singles, Whitney Kraft (Katonah, N.Y.) defeated Robert Sterk (Aurora, Colo.), 4-0, 4-2, in the final. Sterk defeated Christopher Tran (Vienna, Va.) in the semifinal. Kraft defeated Christian Connors (Maineville, Ohio) in the semifinal and Harrison Straley (Shalimar, Fla.) in the quarterfinal. Also in the quarterfinal, Connors defeated Rafael Fuentes (Victorville, Calif.), while Tran defeated George Maurtua (Ketchum, Idaho). Sterk defeated Kevin Pease (Falmouth, Mass.) in the only round of 16 match.

Ianni/Jobe won the men’s open doubles draw, defeating Kevin/Sean Pease and Marcel Chan (Kailua, Hawaii)/Travlino. Chan/Travalino defeated Kevin/Sean Pease, 4-1, 4-1.

In the men’s 35 doubles, partners Martinez-Arraya & Victor Vidal (Stamford, Conn.) defeated Kraft/João Pinho (Trenton, N.J.). Martinez-Arraya then partnered with Patricio Misitrano (Darien, Conn.) to defeat Nguyen/Williams and Summers/Thiner. Kraft/Pinho won two matches, defeating Summers/Thiner and Nguyen/Williams. Summers/Thiner defeated Nguyen/Williams.

Cioroch also won the mixed open doubles draw with partner Casey Kay (Alpharetta, Ga.). Cioroch/Kay defeated Jenna Gollub (Richmond, Va.) & Mark Hanna (Cupertino, Calif.) and then Stephanie Luk (Millbrae, Calif.) & Jonas Satuito (Brisbane, Calif.) to claim the title. Luk/Satuito defeated Gollub/Hanna.

In the women’s 45 singles, Ginger Phillips (Louisville, Colo.) defeated Becky Recavarren (Fountain Valley, Calif.), 4-0, 4-1.
