Applying for Membership

The USPTA’s mission is to “elevate the standards of tennis-teaching professionals and coaches”. On January 2, 2021, the new pathway for becoming a USPTA Certified Professional and a USPTA Tennis Instructor began. As of November 1, 2020, applications will be accepted for both categories. The Professional certification is designed for full-time tennis-teaching professionals while the Tennis Instructor category is designed for part-time tennis coaches.

When applying for a membership, please use your legal name as shown on a government issued I.D.



Professional Certification

The USPTA Professional certification pathway takes approximately three to five months to complete. The process requires online and in-person education and the completion of USTA Safe Play training and background check. The cost to become a Certified Professional includes a $399 one-time application fee. It also includes the prorated amount of the $315 annual membership dues. This includes all online courses and required in-person workshops.

  3. Pay USPTA Membership Dues (prorated based on application date)

*There is a $25 USTA operational fee to attend any Teaching Essentials 1 course.
*There is an additional $14.95 fee to complete the required CPR training.
*Withdrawal from Level 2 Workshop less than 1 week prior to event will incur a $75 cancellation fee.



Tennis Instructor
The USPTA Tennis Instructor pathway consists of 16 hours of online educational modules, participation in a 2-day Level 1 Virtual Workshop hosted by the USTA and the completion of USTA Safe Play training and background check. The cost to become a Tennis Instructor includes a $199 one-time application fee. It also includes the prorated amount of the $215 annual membership dues.

High School Coach – The High School Coach membership is not a certified category. This membership type is designed for high school coaches looking for education opportunities and affiliation with the USPTA. Members get full access to our online education database.
