The USPTA Professional membership category is designed for tennis professionals that teach tennis as a full-time career. Professional members typically hold positions ranging from assistant pro to head tennis professional at sports clubs and other recreational facilities. Professional members receive coverage under the USPTA’s $6 million liability insurance policy, as well as other benefits.
Currently, to become a Professional member, applicants must be at least 18 years old, complete 6 months of hands-on work experience, Coach Youth Tennis and USTA Safe Play, as well as the on-court and written portions of the exam.
We encourage you to complete your professional certification requirements by December 31, 2021. Beginning January 1, 2022, additional requirements will be added to the Certification Pathway, so don’t wait. Here’s what you need to do:
- Complete all Tennis Essentials 1 (TE1) Tennis Instructor requirements as soon as possible.
- Register and complete all Tennis Essentials 2 (TE2) Courses – 12 courses, 37 modules
- Lesson Plans – 3 modules
- Facilities – 6 modules
- Exercise to Strengthen Serve – 2 modules
- Player Standards L2 – 2 modules
- Sales/Mkt/PR/Social Media – 3 modules
- Tactical 2 – 3 modules
- Sports Science 2 – 2 modules
- Tennis Movement and Footwork – 4 modules
- USPTA Certification Pathway – 2 modules
- Management – 3 modules
- Personal Development – 5 modules
- Planning and Programing – 2 modules
- TE2 Teaching Privates Webinar Series – Six one-hour webinars presented live with interactive questions, chatbox, polls, etc. Applicants can sign up to take the webinar live or take the recorded webinar session to earn their completion credit.
- Five one-hour presentations from USPTA experts on private lessons. Topics include structuring lessons, diagnosing, stroke parameters, grips, contact points, feeding, planning for different types of lessons.
- Webinar six covers how to submit your private lesson video. For completion of TE2 Teaching Privates, you must submit a private lesion video along with a graded score sheet that your Certification Advisor grades. Upon submission, approved Coach Developers will grade the video.
